Super Talent Technology, one of the leading manufacturers of flash storage solutions and DRAM memory modules, has announced yesterday the immediate availability of DDR3 memory SO-DIMMs. As most of you know, SO-DIMMs are memory modules used for portable computers such as notebooks and laptops. The introduction of DDR3 to the notebook industry comes to forecast the upcoming next generation
of portable computers.

The San Jose, California-based company has designed its 1GB DDR3 SO-DIMM with a clock rate of 1333 MHz. The new product is said to support transfer rates of up to 10.664 MB/sec, which should give you a general understanding of this product's technical specifications. Apparently, Super Talent's new DDR3 laptop memory can provide a bandwidth 66% higher than DDR2-800 SO-DIMMs, which makes this product the world's fastest production DDR3 SO-DIMM, according to Super Talent.

The advantages of DDR3 over DDR2 can be resumed to lower power consumption with higher bandwidth performance. While low power isn't that big of a deal with the desktop computer systems, for portable systems like notebooks, the DDR3 standard promises to increase the battery life. Higher frequencies for memory means more overclocking for extreme users and most probably higher benchmark results. The disadvantage of DDR3 is that they come with higher latencies and cost much more than their DDR2 equivalent.

Super Talent has said its product is going to be featured at a street price tag of under $99, which is almost twice the price of the DDR2 notebook memory. The company is expected to showcase its complete range of SSDs, flash and DRAM products at this year's Computex Show, which will be held between 3 and 7 of June. This month, the San Jose, California-based company has also released its High-Speed MasterDrive SSDs designed for notebook users.
