Super Stardust Ultra launches today on the PS4 in North America and tomorrow, February 11, in Europe and other PAL regions, bringing forth the same great arcade twin-stick shooter experience, but with new planets, modes, and a variety of other enhancements, including 3D at 60fps.

Super Stardust launched originally on the PS3 many years ago, once again proving that developer Housemarque is able to deliver top-notch twin-stick shooter experiences. However, since the studio also reached critical acclaim with Resogun on the PS4, Sony tasked other studios with remastering previous Housemarque titles, such Dead Nation, which got a re-release last year, and now Super Stardust Ultra.

Super Stardust Ultra is coming to PS4 this week

After confirming the remake last year, the game is finally set to debut onto the PS4 later today, February 10, in North America, and tomorrow, February 11, in Europe.

On the official PS blog, Sony XDev Studio Producer Mark O'Connor confirms that the new version of the game is chock full of goodies and surprises for fans.

Besides offering the same content as the original PS3 game, the Ultra version comes with support for impressive technologies, such as 3D, while retaining the intense 60fps framerate at all times.

It also brings forth five brand new planets, not to mention a wide array of visual enhancements that take advantage of the PS4's more powerful hardware. There are nine different single-player game modes, in addition to the 2-4 player local split-screen.

Some of the modes are completely new, such as Blockade, which leaves a trail of deadly mines in the back of your ship. These act both as great ways of killing large groups of foes, but also can destroy your own ship if you try to go back.

Just like with Dead Nation: Apocalypse edition for PS4, Super Stardust Ultra supports interactive streaming, which means that those who live stream their experience can have good or bad things appear in the game, depending on the Twitch user chat.
