Nintendo has issued a brand new update for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, adding some additional stages for the game's 8-player mode.

The brawler is one of the Wii U's biggest sellers, which is not saying all that much, given the low popularity of Nintendo's latest console, but it's a solid title with a pretty strong following nonetheless.

The game came out in November, and Nintendo is still working on bringing extra content to its fans, in the form of free stages and some new character DLC.

The Nintendo 3DS edition of the brawler was released back in October, 2014, and the two versions have managed to sell an aggregate of around 10 million copies worldwide.

The new stuff

The update weighs in at 316 MB and brings the fighting game to version number 1.0.2, adding nine regular stages as well as six Final Destination stage variants as 8-player options.

Previously, the completely bonkers 8-player mode was only supported by a handful of maps, as most of the available arenas are too limited in size to be able to accommodate all the action.

The new regular stages are Mario Circuit, Luigi's Mansion, Pyrosphere, Norfair, Lylat Cruise, Pokemon Stadium 2, Animal Crossing – Town and City, Animal Crossing – Smashville, and Wii Fit Studio.

The Final Destination stages are Mario Galaxy, Mario Circuit, Kirby: The Great Cave Offensive, Lylat Cruise, Pokemon Stadium 2, and Animal Crossing – Town and City.
