Nintendo has just released the 1.0.5 update for Super Smash Bros. for 3DS, adding Amiibo support and some new and juicy features.

The highly anticipated update has finally arrived, just in time to line up with the launch of the new and improved version of the Nintendo 3DS handheld gaming device on western markets.

The patch enables gamers to use their Amiibo figurines in the brawler, and also allows them to post in-game photographs to Miiverse, as well as share and download replays, and even Mii Fighter data, with other gamers all across the globe.

Players will be able to search and download content from the game's official servers, and any content they post will be kept for 30 days. However, players can only post their own content to the servers, but they will be able to share and exchange photos, replays and data with users on their 3DS Friend List.

The update is easy to get: you just have to head over to the eShop or download it when starting the game, from the Home menu. The patch is a mandatory install for gamers who wish to make use of the Super Smash Bros. for 3DS' online multiplayer.

Note that any replay data that was saved prior to the update will be rendered obsolete and will no longer be playable once 1.0.5 is installed.

Amiibo functionality

Users can simply tap their Amiibo figures to the touchscreen in order to transform them into figure players to battle, train and level up. Players can also use FPs that they previously trained in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U on the New Nintendo 3DS, so they don't have to maintain two separate sets.

Furthermore, old Nintendo 3DS and XL systems will be made compatible with Amiibo functionality at some point in the near future, when the company will release a special peripheral device and a software update to make it work.

Nintendo has also added that, in order to improve the gameplay experience of its customers, some issues have been fixed.
