Some fans do not appreciate how much a team invests in a game

Masahiro Sakurai, the game director working on the new Super Smash Bros for the Wii U and the 3DS, believes that most players fail to see the direct link between the hard work of developers and the quality of the final product.

Nintendo Life quotes a Famitsu article from the game creator in which he states, “You have all these people working their fingers to the bone to complete just a single project. The games I make tend to be played for a long time, and whether I’m satisfied with the results or there are things I’m not happy with, it always takes a lot of time to make them.”

Super Smash Bros has been in development for the last three years and many fans have complained that they are not getting access to more information from the Nintendo team.

Sakurai says that a lot of work is put into remaking characters and including new powers for them to use and that it makes sense to show only the finished product to the fan community.

He adds, “But the players don’t know about how hard we work. That’s not a problem because that’s the case for any product, but it’s important to remember that you can’t take anything for granted.”

The developer also explains that there are difficult periods, especially when a core member of the team leaves, that a studio has no way to explain to its fans.

Super Smash Bros is expected to arrive in 2014 on the Wii U home console and on the 3DS handheld, one of the most expected releases since the two devices were first launched.

The team has promised a deep yet engaging fighting game experience with a varied cast of characters.

The game will also introduce a layer of connectivity between the two platforms that should lead to increases in sales for Nintendo.
