The community wanted to get the character in the payable roster

Masahiro Sakurai, the game director working on Super Smash Bros., says that his team is not offering Waluigi as a playable character in the upcoming Wii U and 3DS experience despite pressure from the fan community.

He posted an image of the Trophy Assist associated with the character on the Miiverse social service, captured by NeoGAF, and stated that, “Once again Waluigi’s Assist Trophy joins the collection!!… Which also means he’s not a playable character. Just because you try hard doesn’t mean you’ll make it into battle.”

It’s unclear if the final phrase of the announcement is a tease for dedicated fans of the character or simply a suggestion that he might be added to the playable roster at some later date.

Super Smash Bros. does not yet currently have an official launch date for the Wii U and the 3DS, but it is widely seen as one of the most important releases of the year for both platforms.

Nintendo says that the two versions of the experience will not interact in any way, but that they are each designed to use the unique features of the devices on which they arrive.

More characters for Super Smash Bros. will be revealed before the game receives an official launch date.
