Super Smash Bros. is a highly anticipated title headed for Nintendo's 3DS and Wii U platforms this year, and the recent Nintendo Direct presentation of the game has revealed a ton of new information related to the multiplayer brawler.

Game Director Masahiro Sakurai has informed avid gamers that some of their favorite characters from past Nintendo games will be making the roster of playable characters in the upcoming arena battle title, confirming the return of the beloved Yoshi, a news item which frankly surprises no one.

The egg throwing dinosaur will bring some change to the upcoming game however, as this time around, he will be completely upright.

In more proper news, Charizard has been promoted to a playable character in his own right, moving up the ranks since the days when he was merely a Pokemon Trainer's minion.

Charizard, one of the all-time favorite Pokemon, was one of the three Pokemon available to the Pokemon Trainer character, but the developers decided the time was right to let the fire-breathing dragon stand on his own.

Another entirely new addition to the roster will be Greninja, who looks like he's going to have a bunch of fast moves, which suits the Pokemon who is best known for the speed and grace of a ninja.

Greninja is the final form of Froakie, one of the starters from Pokemon X and Y, and the frog-like Pokemon belongs to the Water type, which is completely opposed to Charizard's Fire type, so it will be very interesting to see how the two will fare against each other.

Additionally, Zero Suit Samus and Sheik will also make a return as separate characters. Previously, Both Samus and Princess Zelda appeared in the game with separate forms, and Sakurai has informed that this time, the two will be making a return as their own characters.

Zero Suit Samus' fighting style will focus more on kicking, as well as having better recovery when compared to regular Samus. Shiek will benefit from two completely new moves, a bomb toss attack and an acrobatic move that will get her out of harm's way.

The Nintendo Direct stream has also revealed that the Nintendo 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. will arrive sometime this summer, playing at 60 frames per second with stereoscopic 3D turned on.

The Wii U launch however has been scheduled for later in the year, in order to work some polishing magic into the game and deliver the experience that everyone is hoping for.
