Beside its numerous home-entertainment oriented products, Korean company LG Electronics also brought to this year's International CES a few portable computing systems, including here the LG A520, a 15.6-inch notebook that comes packed with the company Film Patterned Retarder (FPR) 3D technology.

If you're not exactly familiar with the FPR technology, we'll have to mention that its main purpose is to optimize the separation of images for the left and right eye, which are then filtered through the glasses, thus enabling a blur-free 3D experience.

However, while its 3D capabilities are, in fact, the main selling point of the new portable computing system from LG Electronics, the truth of the matter is that the the device also provides a pretty solid hardware configuration, starting with the CPU, a choice of Sandy Bridge, 2'nd generation Intel Core mobile CPUs (both Core i5 and i7 options are available).

Of course, a 3D notebook requires some serious graphics, provided, in this case, by the NVIDIA GeForce GT540M graphics card (1 or 2 GB versions available, together with Optimus graphics switching technology), while the notebook's level of performance is further boosted by the up to 8GB of supported RAM memory.

The LG A520 also offers plenty of storage space (up to 750GB HDDs supported), and it doesn't come short on connectivity options either, since it packs Bluetooth 3.0+HS, HDMI, plus the other networking and connectivity options we've come to expect from modern notebooks.

Additional features worth mentioning include the high-quality Full HD 3D LED LCD display, as well as the SRS Wide 3D sound system, that will complete the 3D multimedia experience offered by the A520.

LG informs us that the A520 should become available in stores in the first quarter of 2011, although specific release date or prices have not yet been provided.
