Super OS 10.10 has been released. The version number is not just a coincidence, the latest Super OS release is based on the recently released Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat.

Apart from the obvious updated packages, Super OS 10.10 comes with a number of new features like the possibility to install proprietary drivers without an internet connection.

Super OS' main touted advantage is ease of use, meaning more bundled software like codecs and other binary packages. Super OS 10.10 continues the trend by adding the possibility to install some drivers in offline mode.

Nvidia, ATI graphics card drivers and Broadcom wireless network card drivers are now available for install right on the DVD ISO. This will enable users to activate these drivers via the "Aditional Drivers" tool, a very useful feature if you don't have access to an internet connection.

Super OS 10.10 also comes with a brand-new USB installer creation tool "usb-creator" which is available from the DVD menu and replaces "cd2usb."

Full Java support is once again available to ensure that users can access all websites. OpenJDK has been replaced.

Since Super OS 10.10 is based on Ubuntu 10.10, released on Sunday, it comes with the very latest packages available in the repositories, Linux kernel 2.6.35.3, GNOME 2.32, X.Org 7.5 and so on. All other packages have been updated as well.

The Linux distro also comes with extended codec support and media software. VLC comes preinstalled along with support for DVD playback as well as support for a variety of proprietary formats like MP3, QuickTime, WMV, DivX, Xvid and so on.

There are also a number of internet-related packages, including all major browsers available for Linux, Firefox, Google Chrome and Opera.

Super OS 10.10 32-bit and 64-bit are available for download here on Softpedia.
