Homebrew multiplayer Mario

You are probably wondering what the heck is Super Mario War? To clear things up I must inform you that Super Mario War is a homebrew Mario multiplayer game. Some might call it a rip-off, others might call it a tribute to Nintendo.

The main goal of the game is to stomp as many other Marios as possible to win the game. The creator of this Mario game is Samuele Poletto, who has used artwork and sounds from Nintendo games. I hope that Poletto won't get in trouble with Nintendo for his work.

Apparently, up to four players can face each other in a Mario deathmatch and what is interesting about Super Mario War is that it comes with a level editor. The game is described by smw as "more fun than poking a monkey with a stick". Can something be more fun than that? Like...NO!

Super Mario War features a whole bunch of game models, such as GetTheChicken, CTF or Dominator, and - by the looks of it - the game uses SDL and can be played on Windows, Linux and Macs. The overall conclusion in the game's description is that Super Mario War will make you happy and give you a fuzzy feeling.

So hurry and grab the game before Nintendo finds out and starts throwing lawsuits left and right. If you are a Mario freak or you are simply curious, click HERE and download it. This is the 1.7 version of the game, but only for PCs. For Linux and Mac versions check the respective sections of Softpedia; they will be up soon.
