Nintendo has confirmed that it will be releasing an update for Super Mario Bros. to all the 3DS Ambassadors who got a chance to download the classic game for free back in September.

Nintendo made a large cut to the price of its 3DS console earlier this year and, in order to calm down customers who already got the device at its original price, made them special ‘Ambassadors’ which meant they got 20 free downloadable games, 10 from the NES library and 10 from the GBA one.

As we learned at the beginning of the week, Nintendo is now issuing updates for the Ambassador games, just as the NES titles are being made available to all the other 3DS owners in Japan.

The Legend of Zelda already got its update and Nintendo has now confirmed that Super Mario Bros. will also receive new features on January 5.

The update brings new features to the classic game like multiplayer, save game options, and support for sleep mode, not to mention a special instruction manual.

Nintendo still hasn’t revealed just when these updates might be released for North American or European Ambassadors, however.
