Super Mario 64 DS is an exclusive game made for the Nintendo DS handheld platform, by Nintendo's Entertainment Analysis and Development studio and published by the company itself for the portable console, on November 21, 2004, in North America, December 2, that same year, in Japan, on February 24, 2005, in Australia, and on March 11, 2005, in Europe, as a new and improved version of its classic Nintendo 64 game Super Mario 64.
The original title went on to gain critical and sales success, so this remastered title doesn't try to add too many new things, as the developer focused on improving the graphics, in order to take advantage of the more powerful DS hardware, and also added new characters, like Yoshi or Wario, who have new areas to explore.
HINTS
Easy lives
-If you die during the final battle and need lives, go behind the pillar to your left to find a 1-Up. If you die at Bowser, it will be there again.
-You can get extra lives outside the castle. If you make birds fly away, hit one and an extra life mushroom will appear.
-Go in the castle room with all of the characters' doors. Jump into the picture of Princess Peach on the right. Once in, you will be able to go down the Princess's "secret slide". Somewhere on the slide, a 1-Up will appear in front of you. At the end of the slide there will be a yellow star (if you have not already been here before). Behind the platform where the star was located, another 1-Up should appear. You can keep doing this until you have as many lives as desired, for those "harder courses". Even if you save, the next time you will not have that amount of lives.
Avoid death from high falls
If you fall from a very high location, wait until you are just above the ground and press R. You will do a butt slam and will not get hurt.
