Shigeru Miyamoto, the main creative force behind the video games division at Nintendo, has offered some more information about the upcoming Super Mario 3DS title, saying that he wants the game to offer an experience which combines the best elements seen in Super Mario Galaxy and in the older Super Mario 64.

Speaking in London at a press event, the legendary designer has said that, “It’s a combination of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario on N64. It won’t convey the message if I talk to you today, but if you play it at E3 that will give you more understanding of what I’m talking about.”

He gave a quick example, saying, “the floors floating in space: in 2D it’s difficult to judge the distance, but in 3D it’s really easy.”

Miyamoto would not offer any more information about what the game will offer to long-term fans of the Mario franchise and also would not offer other details on how the three-dimensional gaming capabilities of the new Nintendo 3DS will be used.

The game creator says that the game is well along the development and that players will be able to enjoy it this year, although no clear launch window was given.

Super Mario 3DS was officially announced by Nintendo at GDC, perhaps as a response for those who claimed that the new handheld lacked the core titles that the company used to push the original DS and the Wii.

The 3DS has performed very well on launch in Japan, Europe and North America, beating the numbers posted by the normal DS in most cases, but the hardware seems to be slowing down rather quickly, which might be a result of a limited range of games being available when it was released.

Nintendo is also preparing to launch two Zelda games for the Nintendo 3DS.
