The modular unit is intended for mainstream gaming systems

Super Flower is the third company that we report today (April 18, 2012) as having released one or more power supplies.

So far, we've written about Galaxy's entry-level gaming system PSUs and the higher-end Extreme 2 from Cooler Master.

Super Flower only has one product to show, but it is the type that has what it takes to serve a great many different systems.

That is because its wattage is more than decent for full desktop configurations (including a nice and strong graphics card) and the efficiency is not half bad either.

More precisely, while there seems to be no outright mention of 80Plus rating, it is said that the efficiency exceeds 85% at 50% load, which would fit 80Plus Bronze.

Regardless, the new Super Flower modular power provider uses a single 12V rail design (one 45.5 A rail) and, like all self-respecting PSUs, has a whole bunch of protections.

OVP (over-voltage), OPP (over-power), and SCP (short-circuit) protections are all present and accounted for.

Moving on, in addition to the obligatory 24-pin ATX connectors (for motherboards), the PSU comes with 4+4-pin ATX/EPS, a 6+2pin PCI Express connector.

There is a bunch of other cables too, but the PSU is, in the end, modular, which means that buyers will get to decide which of the wires to connect and which aren't required.

The list is composed of an extra 6+2-pin PCI Express plug (for when two video cards are used in SLI or CrossFire), four Molex cables, a SATA+SATA+Molex and four SATA cables.

Not only that, but Super Flower gave the SF-550K14XP, as the 550W PSU is called, a fan with a diameter of 120mm and a blue LED. Finally, the power supply has active PFC with LLC resonant half-bridge rectifier.

Unfortunately, there is, at the moment, no clue on what price this thing is supposed to sport. Hopefully, shipments will start soon.
