The game still needs a lot of optimization, apparently

Insomniac Games, the developer of the upcoming Xbox One exclusive Sunset Overdrive, has confirmed that the new title isn't running at a full HD 1080p native resolution just yet, although it's still optimizing it ahead of the future launch.

The Xbox One isn't doing so well in terms of sales and quite a few games, both multi-platform ones as well as exclusives, are struggling to achieve the gold standard of a native 1080p resolution and a 60fps framerate, often sacrificing one or both in order to deliver a good experience.

The upcoming Sunset Overdrive, which is set to arrive in the future from Insomniac Games, also struggles to achieve 1080p, at least according to the studio's CEO, Ted Price, who talked with Edge, via Videogamer.

"We're still working on optimizing and we're going to continue to do that," he said. "We can get into all the technical stuff later. This is going to be a [question] for every game that comes out. People will be counting pixels. For us, it's about the vision: you saw it, you played it. It's about creating a world."

Insomniac's Creative Director, Marcus Smith, has also talked a bit about working now just with the Xbox One and emphasized that it means the game will run much better than it would have had it come to more platforms at the same time, as the studio can focus on just one situation.

"When we worked with Sony, that made it easier, because we were focused on that hardware. With Sunset Overdrive, it's the same thing. It makes it easier for us to focus on the one thing and tap the hardware in a way that we probably couldn't if we were crossplatform."

He has also emphasized that the lack of a 1080p native resolution isn't to blame on the complicated Xbox One hardware, as it just means that more optimization is needed before the game is officially released to the world.

"I'll say it's not a difficult system to work on," Smith said. "We're coming from Sony platforms during the last gen! For us to focus on Xbox One has been great, because the guys can really dig into the hardware, and working with our partners [we'll] continue to optimize so we can get more onscreen."

Sunset Overdrive has received some more gameplay details, but a release date is still unknown. Considering the title will be showcased by Microsoft at E3 2014, expect to hear something about its launch at that point in time.
