The latest video from developer Insomniac Games offers a behind the scenes look at the "awesomepocalypse" in the company's upcoming third-person shooter Sunset Overdrive.

The main premise behind the zany shooter is that the apocalypse is a lot of fun. As opposed to other games where the apocalypse is presented as a dark and gloomy event, in Sunset Overdrive it enables the protagonist to go from a life full of tedium as a menial worker to an exciting non-stop romp of explosions and more explosions.

Insomniac Games' fresh and lively take on the apocalypse brings a lot of gorgeous and colorful visuals to the forefront of the wild action, complete with a gameplay that's a mixture of third-person shooting and fast movement, inspired by parkour and skateboarding games.

The game features a ton of unique and fun references, such as a vinyl record shooter, a nod to this scene from Shaun of the Dead, and a teddy bear rocket launcher.

The game's action starts in the wake of a disastrous event, when a crowd of people binging on a newly released energy drink start mutating into ferocious beasts, giving you the chance to shine and become Sunset Overdrive's hero.

Sunset Overdrive is currently scheduled to come out on October 28 in North America and October 31 in Europe, exclusively on Microsoft's Xbox One computer entertainment system.
