Sungjut TangoX Nano UMPC, Built on Via's NanoBook Platform: Eee PC Checkmate?

Eee PC lovers might find an interesting companion in Sungjut's latest ultra mobile PC, called the TangoX Nano. Built on Via's NanoBook core platform, the sub-notebook only measures 230 x 171 x 29.4 millimeters and weighs 0.97 kilograms. The tiny UMPC came from Asia and things might get a little gloomy for Asustek's Eee PC.

The notebook is built on Via's sub-notebook reference platform and if it looks familiar, then you must have previously seen Maxdata's Belinea sub-notebook. Under the nice-looking notebook enclosure, you can find a VIA C7-M Ultra-Low Voltage processor running at 1.2 GHz, which is extremely good for a sub-notebook.

The TangoX Nano computer comes with 1 GB of DDR2 system memory 40 or 80GB of storage space on a conventional hard-disk drive, built-in high-definition audio, and a 7-inch WVGA LCD panel with touch-screen capabilities. The connectivity aspect is covered by a 4 in 1 SD card reader, a single Ethernet port, Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g, two USB 2.0 ports and a single DVI connector for adding an external display to the system.

The most important feature of the Sungjut UMPC is the removable, yet built-in Skype/VoIP phone. The sub-notebook is a few millimeters larger than the Asustek Eee computer and weighs 50 grams more. The Sungjut TangoX Nano sub-notebook seems to be a promising prospect for the future, given the fact that it is the only notebook on the market to match the Eee's form factor.

The company did not provide pricing and availability informations as of the moment of writing, yet it will surely be strategically priced according to the other competitors on the UMPC market. The bad news is that the notebook is not likely to be available outside the Korean market.
