Summit Entertainment confirms final Twilight book, “Breaking Dawn,” will be made into two films

Even before the third film in “The Twilight Saga” had finished production, word on the web had it that Summit Entertainment was already working on making Stephenie Meyer’s fourth book, “Breaking Dawn,” into two films. Rumors broke then that some members of the cast wanted more money for a fifth film, which put an abrupt end to all discussions. Summit has just confirmed that “Breaking Dawn” will be divided into two films.

Though this is not exactly surprising news, since, as noted above, millions of fans believed from the very start that “Breaking Dawn” should be made into two films because it’s made of two almost completely different parts, the fact that both may come in 3D could be. Nothing official has yet been announced as regards the popular vampire story getting the 3D treatment, but, as Twilight Lexicon says on the official Twitter page, buzz is strong that this will be Summit’s next announcement.

“Summit Entertainment confirmed today that The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn will be released as two separate films with the first of the two slated to be released in theatres on November 18, 2011. Academy Award winner Bill Condon will direct both films starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner along with Billy Burke as Charlie Swan as well as returning members of the Cullen Family including Peter Facinelli as Carlisle, Elizabeth Reaser as Esme, Jackson Rathbone as Jasper, Nikki Reed as Rosalie, Ashley Greene as Alice and Kellan Lutz as Emmett,” the press release posted on MTV reads.

“The project, based on the fourth novel in author Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series, is currently being written by Melissa Rosenberg with Wyck Godfrey, Karen Rosenfelt and Stephenie Meyer producing. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn will start production in the fall. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn illuminates the secrets and mysteries of this spellbinding romantic epic that has entranced millions. The third film in the franchise, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is due in theaters on June 30, 2010,” the same release further reads.

As we also noted on a past occasion, the Twilight franchise is drawing to an end and it’s only understandable for Summit to want to make more money off it while it’s still possible. Aside from spinoffs, prequels and sequels that Meyer has yet to write (she’s only come out with a novella so far and it’s not on any of the main characters), the only possibility to prolong the big screen adaptation is to divide the final book into two films, just like was the case with “Harry Potter” as well.
