Suggestion - Jony Ive up for Apple CEO

Apple's SVP of Design sounds like a good choice for Apple's “succession plan”

It could be just us, but Jony Ive does seem to have all that it takes to drive Apple forward after Jobs is gone. No, we're not saying Jobs is leaving Apple (yet). The man's blood pressure indicates he's still up to do several keynote presentations in the future, but say Apple's CEO had to leave...

...who else would be his replacement if not Jony Ive? Apple is a company that likes to put on a show. It doesn't just say “it's got this and that, it's really neat to use, so go out and buy it.” No. Apple puts its best men on stage, and has them talk of its products like they fell out of the sky or something. Even Apple's officials sound surprised at the achievements they've had with their latest products, and no one does it better than Ive at the moment.

If you don't have any idea what we're talking about, we suggest you check out The New MacBook, How It's Made – Video, and then Apple's October 14 Keynote. There, you will see Jony Ive talking about the company's latest technological feats, as well as some other Apple officials, which is a good thing since you get to make a comparison.

The question “does Apple have succession plan?” has long been asked by company watchers. Jobs' battle with cancer years ago and his recent loss in weight are still taking their toll on Apple's stock. The latest rumors saying Apple's CEO had been rushed to the hospital for immediate intervention following a heart attack have impacted Apple's stock price greatly. But even with Apple's CEO feeling better than ever, the truth is Jobs won't be around forever to run the company. This is why Apple, whether it likes it or not, does need a succession plan. We would say Jony Ive (currently SVP of Design) is part of that plan.

And the reasons are obvious. Seeing the man's dedication and commitment when talking of Apple's newly-introduced aluminum MacBook, it all became clear to us: this is the new Steve Jobs! Ive has what it takes to strike a cord. Even if the new MacBook isn't all that great, Ive sure managed to make it sound like it came from the sky. Just like Jobs, he uses tricks (if you will) like long gaps in speech, sometimes followed by a sigh, frowning when emphasizing an exciting feature and others. His power of conviction comes very, very close to Steve's.

We encourage you to check out the two video samples where Jony Ive makes an appearance. Come back afterwards with your impressions.

I also think that Jonathan Ive is the best choice to become the next CEO of Apple. He shares the same passion, drive ,vision and commitment to perfection that Steve Jobs has but the fact that he is a shy man that doesn't like to be interviewed is a concern. I think it will come down to either Jonathan Ive or Phil Schiller for the role. - But Ive gets my vote.
