Police are having trouble identifying the shooter in the pre-VMAs party case because witnesses are not talking

The police investigation in the club shooting incident that took place on Sunday morning before the MTV VMAs is being gummed up, despite the fact that there is plenty of evidence to identify the shooter who fired no less than 6 shots at rap producer Suge Knight.

TMZ claims that the club's advanced security system captured the incident on camera and the recording is clear enough to make out the facial features of the shooter. The only thing they need now is witnesses coming forward to support the video evidence and the case is in the bag. The trouble is no one is willing to come forward.

This may have a lot to do with the original motive the cops gave out for the shooting: gang-related affiliation. In plain English, people aren't talking because they are afraid of repercussions, since this is a gang incident. Several members of the notorious LA gang Bloods were in the club at the time of the shooting.

Both Suge Knight, the person who got shot, and Chris Brown, the celebrity on stage hosting the event, are known for their gang affiliation, and witnesses indicated that Brown was wearing red (the gang's official color) on stage and throwing gang signs.

The police investigation is still going on at the moment, as officers continue to interview people to try and make out what exactly happened and what could have caused this. They have yet to interview the victim, Suge Knight, who is still under sedation after he was operated on at Cedars-Sinai medical center.

Reports show that he was shot as many as 6 times, once in the arm and 5 times in the abdomen. Doctors were able to retrieve 3 bullets from his body, the other 3 having passed right through him at the time of the shooting.

It is hoped that at least some people from the club are willing to make official confessions and thus help the investigation. If this fails, cops intend to release the video of the shooting and hope that someone else from the club that night can come forward, even if they do it anonymously.

Reports from yesterday indicated that Suge Knight was just a bystander caught in the fire and that the original target of the attack was Chris Brown. The singer, who has recently been released from jail, is said to have cut his ties with the Bloods, which has infuriated certain elements of the gang.

These former friends tried to extort money out of Brown and were said to be in a vengeful mood when the singer denied playing ball. This would explain why Bloods members showed up at the club with guns, but it doesn't explain why Suge Knight was the one who got shot instead.
