The team is thinking about other characters and powers

The development team at Sucker Punch and publisher Sony are still working on the launch of InFamous: Second Son, but the two companies are also thinking about the future of the franchise, which might be modelled on the way Assassin’s Creed and BioShock have evolved over time.

Nate Fox, the game director on the current experience, tells The Official PlayStation Magazine that the core structure of the game is designed to give the developers a lot of freedom when evaluating future titles.

He explains that, “inFamous is a really broad concept – an everyday person gets powers and decides if they want to use them for good or evil. That could be anybody of any age, any gender, any time, any country. It’s as wide open as superhero fiction.”

The first two titles in the franchise focused on a different character, but Sucker Punch has decided to make the switch to Delsin for Second Son in order to create a clear break just as the series is moving to the new PlayStation 4 home console from Sony.

This allows the studio to use Seattle, an entirely new city with new exploration possibilities, a new cast of characters to deal with and an array of powers that players have not encountered before.

When the future of the series was suggested, Nate Fox explained that Assassin’s Creed and BioShock offered interesting models of evolution over time.

He adds, “Yeah, that’s a great example. Those games have that feeling. Spiritually, like Bioshock to Bioshock Infinite, there’s not really a lot of overlap in those games but you can tell they’re the same.”

Sucker Punch has delivered a day one patch for InFamous: Second Son, which includes a wide of missions and a lot of extra content for fans to explore.

The team has also suggested that it is working on more downloadable content packs for the title, which will be offered all through this year.

Recently, Ubisoft has revealed that the new Assassin’s Creed title is called Unity and that it will be launched in 2014 on the PC, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.

The future of the BioShock franchise is more uncertain, given that creator Ken Levine has announced that developer Irrational Games would be disbanded after the launch of the second episode of the Burial at Sea DLC for Infinite.

2K Games will have all the rights to the game world and its core mechanics.
