Here is an excellent chance to get your content featured as a part of a theme or as a wallpaper on the Windows Personalization Gallery and end up on millions of desktops worldwide.

Microsoft is now allowing users to submit their art and photography for future Windows 7 themes and background images served through the customization hub set up for the operating system.

The software giant is already accepting submissions, according to Jennifer Shepherd, site manager for the Windows Personalization Gallery.

Users need to make their way to this website, familiarize themselves with the guidelines, FAQ and terms of use, get their art of digital images ready and hit the Submit button, sending their content right to Microsoft.

If it proves hard to figure out, customers can just send images to this following email address: winpgal at microsoft dot com.

“Many, many millions of people visit the Windows Personalization Gallery every month, so if you’ve been looking for a way to share your talent and creativity with people around the world, this is a great opportunity to get your art and photography seen by millions,” Shepherd said.

“You will retain copyright on and be credited for your works, and if you ever change your mind we will remove your art or photography from the gallery at your request.”

It’s important to note that every image or piece of artistic expression users send to Microsoft must be accompanied by such information as the full name, and the how the work will be credited, a brief description of the content, the preferred contact email, and the address of the author’s website.

A key rule is that each image emailed to the software giant needs to be associated with a single email. Use extra emails for each additional image.

But as I have already said, it’s critical to read and understand the information that the Redmond company posted on the site before actually submitting any content.

“And if you need any ideas for topics, here are some examples of subjects I’d particularly love to see your creative treatment of:

• Water: lakes, rivers, seashores, raindrops, reflections… it’s hard to go wrong with images of this most lovely element.

• Monsters, dragons, and magical creatures: Including but not limited to pixies, gnomes, dryads, zombies, dragons, giant squid, werewolves, and aliens.

• The passage of time: images of a single scene showing the transition through the seasons of the year; a series of photographs showing a single beautiful landscape as the light changes from dawn through midmorning, afternoon, dusk, and nightfall; time-lapse photography showing a plant growing,” she explained.
