TIGHAR readies to send submarines to look for the remains of Amelia Earhart's plane

Towards the end of this year's May, specialists with TIGHAR (The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery) announced that an anomaly picked up by sonars in the southwestern Pacific was the right shape and size to be the wreckage of Amelia Earhart's plane.

According to Live Science, TIGHAR now wishes to send two manned submersibles to investigate this part of the Pacific and said anomaly in further detail.

There is hope that the subs will identify the anomaly as the remains of the famed aviator's plane, the same source tells us.

This latest search for Amelia Earhart's plane is scheduled to launch in 2014. Apparently, TIGHAR plans to use two subs, i.e. Pisces IV and Pisces V, belonging to the Hawaiian Undersea Research Laboratory.

Apart from looking for the remains of Amelia Earhart's plane, TIGHAR plans to have a closer look at an uninhabited atoll in the southwestern Pacific, i.e. Nikumaroro, and figure out whether or not it is possible that the aviator and her navigator survived here as castaways, even if only for a short period.
