The maxi dress is back in fashion this season and like most of this summer's dress trends, it's highly versatile and suitable for every body shape and size - provided of course we know how to make a wise choice. Its most important attribute is that it gives all women a chance to feel like women again - that is, feminine and graceful.

The floor-sweeping maxi dress is a true fashion statement for women, a refreshing, glamorous key item in our wardrobes. Whether we're talking tiered, draped or strappy and flowy, the maxi gown is taking the fashion world by storm and we're all very happy to allow it free reign.

Unlike signature designer shoes, for example, most maxi dresses are quite affordable and we can definitely find one for every shopping budget. Kate Moss' clothing line for UK retailer giant Topshop (coming soon to the US) provides beautiful pieces that won't completely annihilate your credit card report. A maxi dress is a great investment, as it can be worn both during the day and at night - whether we're talking a walk in the park or a fancy evening out with friends. In an article for the Daily Mail aptly titled "Maxi dresses - the must-have this summer" Zoe Manzi explains that "the maxi's halter, bandeau and strap tops reveal just the right amount of flesh. The empire line accentuates the narrowest part of our bodies thus flattering most shapes and that full-length skirt keeps any lumps and bumps well hidden". Couldn't agree more!

The maxi dress is also the perfect summer and holiday dress. It's light and airy and can be worn with flats on a warm day exploring a new holiday destination. If you need to add a bit of length to your legs, wear a maxi dress with wedges and you'll have the double benefit of looking taller and keeping any unsightly chunky legs hidden from view while still looking fabulously feminine. Whether you feel like putting on a pair of flip-flops or the latest stiletto heels, the maxi dress will look just as good. Accessorize with a saddle-style shoulder bag and oversize sunglasses and you're sure to pass off as ultra-fashionable.
