StumbleUpon, a discovery platform for personalized Web and mobile content, is available as a native iOS application for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

The discovery engine known as StumbleUpon recommends the best web and mobile content for each user based on their personal taste.

The developers have announced a major update to the iPad application.

Released this week, version 1.4 allows users to explore articles, videos, photos and more across hundreds of interest categories by simply swiping from page to page.

Users can view top recommendations by “stumbling” friend’s favorite pages, or Photos, Videos and News, and they can see what others have liked and may have commented on while they explore.

StumbleUpon fans using the native iOS app can be notified when friends share web pages, and they can also seamlessly share content with anyone, using StumbleUpon, Facebook, Twitter or email.

The updated StumbleUpon app has a visually rich interface and easy-to-use design, the developers added.

There are enhancements to be noted on the iPhone front as well: the ability to explore the web while seeing what others have liked and may have commented on; faster stumbling; resolved share-to-a-stumbler crash; and bug fixes.

StumbleUpon says that its iPad users’ accounts are synced across all platforms, including desktop, iPhone and even Android.

"With the StumbleUpon iPad App you can discover great content and share it with your friends wherever you are," said Garrett Camp, StumbleUpon CEO and co-founder.

"This new experience lets you be entertained, educated and inspired by great content, whether you're sitting on the couch, commuting to work or hanging out at the local coffee shop," added Camp.

Available as a free download from the Entertainment category on the Apple App Store, StumbleUpon is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad and requires iOS 3.0 or later.
