Retrevo, the consumer shopping and review site, has posted the results from a new study about gadget accessories and what smartphone owners want this year. Retrevo’s advice is don’t buy your friends a sweater for a Christmas gift. Chances are they’d much rather fancy an iPhone.

Of course, anyone could figure that one out.

Retrevo, however, polled people who were under the age of 35, and who already owned a smarphone.

“If you want to make sure your gift is well received we suggest you heed this advice based on a recent Retrevo Gadgetology study that looked at smartphone owners under the age of 35, the gadgets accessories they own, and the ones they want to buy,” the review site claims.

Retrevo asked: "Among these choices, (Gadget Accessories, Clothing, Books, and Perfume) what would you most like to receive as a gift this year?"

The answers (study highlights): - iPhone emphasis by Softpedia -

· Android owners are the most likely to want Gadget Accessories (35%). 32% of iPhone owners want gadget accessories, and 31% of BlackBerry owners want accessories. · Android owners want the most books (25%) followed by BlackBerry (22%) and iPhone 16%). · BlackBerry owners are the most likely to want clothing (34%), followed by Android (27%) and iPhone owners (23%). · iPhone owners want the most perfume (29%), followed by Android owners (14%) and BlackBerry owners 13%).

Curious to know which gadget accessories subjects were thinking of buying this holiday season (Cell Phone Case/Skin, Headphones/Earbuds, Bluetooth Headset, Speaker/Speaker dock, Camera accessory), Retrevo learned the following:

· iPhone owners are the most likely to want a cell phone case (33%), followed by 25% of Android owners and 23% of BlackBerry Owners. · iPhone owners are most likely to want headphones/earbuds (36%) followed by Android owners (27%), and BlackBerry owners (22%). · iPhone owners are most likely to want a Bluetooth headset (29%) followed by BlackBerry owners (22%) and Android owners (21%). · iPhone owners are most likely to want a Speaker/Speaker dock (30%), followed by BlackBerry owners (23%) and Android owners (17%). · iPhone owners are most likely to want camera accessories (31%), followed by Android owners (27%) and BlackBerry owners (17%).

Apparently, iPhone owners aren’t shy of spending a lot of cash on said accessories.

9% of iPhone owners have spent $200 and up, while 19% have spent between $100 and $200, said Retrevo. Some 33% have spent between $50 - $100 and another 33% under $50.

By comparison, 6% of Android Owners have spent $200 and up; 8% have spent between $100 - $200; 19% have spent between $50 - $100; and 60% under $50.

Retrevo asked “have you bought cases to ‘decorate’ your cell phone?”, to which 48% of iPhone owners said yes. By comparison, only 28% of Android owners, and 36% of BlackBerry owners said yes.

The poll revealed that iPhone owners consider themselves the most “fashion aware” group of smartphone owners, with 90% of owners answering with a definite “yes”.

By comparison, only 75% of Android owners say they consider themselves “fashion aware”. An equal amount of BlackBerry owners said “yes” as well.

Retrevo asked if iPhone users thought cases were a form of "self expression." 90% said yes. In fact, 27% said they bought a phone case to "match their outfit." 21% would buy one to impress their friends.
