A new segment of the market is opening up for weight loss products. Known as cosmeceuticals, these products are halfway between cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, just like Shore Holdings, Inc.’s Burner Balm lip balm. As we were also
telling you a while back, this is a lippy that claims to curb appetite, offer a boost of energy and thus help one achieve the desired weight by shedding the extra pounds. As the company tells Softpedia, a recent study shows that the claim is more than substantiated.
Basically, the Burner Balm acts on the body like an appetite suppressant would, the only difference being that the slimmer no longer has to take a pill or powder, or drink a shake, which means the balm acts instantly because it no longer has to pass through the stomach to take effect. A 12-week study on volunteers showed that, indeed, the weight loss was anywhere between 7 to 9 pounds, as portions became smaller and snacking was eliminated almost completely.
“According to lead clinical investigator, Dr. David E. Toomey, who has orchestrated a multitude of clinical trials for some of the top pharmaceutical manufacturers in the United States, ‘The product performed better than anyone expected.’ The double blind placebo controlled clinical trials were conducted over a twelve-week period on over one hundred patients. Dr. Toomey states, ‘Over the twelve week period the Burner Balm group lost an average of seven to nine pounds versus the placebo group. Many of the patients commented that meal portions shrank considerably while using the product and most were able to cut out snacking all together’,” reads the press release.
Dr. Allan Kurtz, who developed the product, says he knew from the start that the balm would work because its ingredients are quickly absorbed into the bloodstream through the blood vessels found in the mucus membrane in the lips. This is another advantage the lippy has against traditional weight loss products, which, for having to pass through the stomach, can have adverse unpleasant reactions, like cramps or diarrhea and gas. This and the wonderful results the lip balm got in the study give the makers good cause to believe that Burner Balm is en route to beating all competition and literally write history in the niche market of cosmeceuticals.
