Now that the back-to-school period is, more or less, upon us, IT players have started to bring out their latest arsenal. Dell, of course, is no exception, as was made obvious by such devices as the Precision M6500. The M6500 is one of, if not the most powerful mobile workstations in the world, as is obvious from such things as 32GB of RAM. Now, the PC maker decided to supply the desktop front with something that, while not quite as mighty, can still easily qualify as high-end.

The new desktop personal computer is called Studio XPS 9100 and, unlike others of the company's products, showed up on its maker's website without being accompanied by a press release. The first thing that will strike onlookers is the possibility of configuring it with not just Intel Core i7 Quad-Core central processing units, but also six-core versions. The lists includes the Core i7-920 and the i7-980X.

Whichever CPU is chosen will not have to worry about not being able to work at its fullest potential, as it will be backed up by up to 24GB of DDR3 RAM. A top-grade video card is also, obviously, present, with an option being the dual-GPU ATI Radeon HD 5970 with 2GB of GDDR5. Furthermore, a number of hard disk drives can be added, for a total of 4TB of storage, while a DVD or Blu-ray drive will cater to any and all optical storage and multimedia playback needs. As for connectivity and I/O, Dell threw in the obligatory Gigabit Ethernet, a multi-in-1 card reader and optional WiFi.

The newcomer has already been set up with its very own product page on the company's official website. Interested end-users can find it here, but they will need to make sure they have at least $950 to spare in case they actually want to acquire it. The machine will be pre-loaded with Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional or Ultimate, all 64-bit.
