The concept shelter sports a green wall, solar panels, even a rainwater collection system

Students at Pennsylvania State University in the US have come up with a really cool concept mobile shelter that, they say, would be perfect for disaster relief in areas such as the ones affected by hurricane Katrina.

The concept shelter, a picture of which is available above, it basically a trailer that has been modified and that has been fitted with all sorts of systems and installations intended to make it self-sufficient.

Thus, the Penn State students envision their Apparatus X mobile eco shelter as a trailer that packs a so-called green wall allowing people to grow their own food, solar panels, and even a rainwater collection and filtration system.

The students say that their concept Apparatus X features a design studio and even room for tool storage, Inhabitat tells us.

The mobile shelter's design allows it to expand, and, once the tools are also factored in, Apparatus X has no trouble converting an otherwise empty lot into a construction site, they add.

The students have not yet had the chance to build their mobile eco shelter, and not because they lack the expertise to do so, but because they are in dire need of funds to move forward with this process.

They say that, despite the fact that they have received funding from several companies including IBM and Boeing, they are still several thousand dollars short.

Hoping that people will agree to lend them a helping hand, the students have launched a fundraising campaign and hope to get $15,000 (€10,817) by this coming May 2. Those who wish to support this project need only head over to Indiegogo.
