A student that had serious chances of running in a state championship in Kentucky has refused to participate in the regional race because of the number assigned to her.

Whitley County High School junior Codie Thacker has trained for the race since June, but she refused to enter once allotted number “666.”

She cites her strong religious beliefs that do not allow her to take part in the championship while wearing the number.

Her Cross country coach, Gina Croley, knew right away that Codie would never wear the mark of the beast. She tried to get the number changed three times, LEX 18 reported. However, all her efforts were fruitless.

Thacker decided to pull out of the race completely and she will not have another competition this season.
