Capcom has confirmed that, unlike the PlayStation 3 edition, Street Fighter X Tekken on the Xbox 360 won’t have any exclusive fighters when released this year.

Fighting games are growing in number these days, so quite a few developers want to attract console owners with unique combatants or platform-exclusive characters. We’ve already heard that Assassin’s Creed Ezio Auditore will appear in SoulCalibur V, while God of War’s Kratos is included both in the PS3 and the upcoming PS Vita versions of Mortal Kombat.

The future Street Fighter X Tekken also has exclusive characters, in the form of Cole from Infamous, on the PlayStation 3. Xbox 360 owners, sadly, won’t receive any exclusive fighters, as Capcom wasn’t able to work out a deal with Microsoft.

The news was delivered by producer Yoshinori Oni, who talked about the exclusive characters in the upcoming fighting game.

"We do have the exclusive characters for the Sony platform. We have Cole, the two Sony cats, Kuro and Toro. But basically for the Xbox 360, we were in discussions with them (Microsoft) for which character to put in as an exclusive, but we weren't able to decide on a character because of differences in timing and things like that," Ono told Xbox 360 Achievements.

"So unfortunately for Street Fighter X Tekken, only the PlayStation family will be getting the exclusive characters, but it's something we wish could have happened. It's just too bad, basically," he added. "In terms of characters we wish we could have put in the game, Master Chief or Marcus Fenix from Gears of War would have been really cool."

Both of the aforementioned characters were rumored to appear in Mortal Kombat on the Xbox 360 shortly after it was revealed that Kratos would be presented in the PS3 edition. As we saw last year, however, this crossover didn’t happen.

Would you have liked to play as Master Chief or Marcus Fenix against the variety of characters from Street Fighter or Tekken?

Having either Marcus Fenix or Master Chief in the game would have definitely given me a reason to purchase the game on the 360, but as an owner of both consoles why would I purchase it on the Xbox when there are 4 confirmed exclusive characters for the PS3. There is most definitlety going to be a major difference in sales numbers between 360 and PS3 because of this reason. This was a mistake by Microsoft, because if they would have followed through with the crossover on this, and especially on Mortal Kombat, which has seen some pretty good sales numbers I am certain that it could have been the other way around.
