Capcom confirmed that it’s going to finally release the controversial downloadable content pack for Street Fighter X Tekken later this month, effectively unlocking the 12 new fighters and costumes that are already on the game’s disc.

Street Fighter X Tekken was launched earlier this year for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles, as well as on the PC.

Capcom immediately confirmed that 12 new characters would be released as a major add-on later this year. However, enterprising players examined the game’s disc and found out that all the DLC was already on it.

This led to a strong backlash against Capcom, which was practically charging players to unlock content they already had in their possession.

Now, after the debate has ended, the Japanese studio confirmed that the add-on would be released this month.

“The Street Fighter X Tekken roster gets a boost later this month, when 12 additional characters - originally planned to release later this year after the PS Vita version - will be released on 360 and PS3 for 1600MSP / $20.00 / €20.00.”

The add-on brings all sorts of fighters to the game, namely: Blanka, Sakura, Guy, Cody, Dudley, Elena, Jack, Bryan Fury, Alisa, Lars, Lei and Christie.

“I know the 12 DLC characters have been a contentious topic since they were discovered on the disc, but your reactions have been heard. We can cite our reasons why they were on the disc all day - compatibility for all players, save HD space, download bandwidth etc - but in the end you have to hear what the community has to say. The dev teams are listening, and promise to incorporate that feedback into future titles - fighting or otherwise,” the company said.

Besides the add-on, Capcom is also going to release a new patch for Street Fighter X Tekken on July 31, which should address a variety of issues and resolve a lot of balancing problems, including:

-Ryu, Ken and Akuma's Tatsumaki Sempuu kyaku have all had their hitboxes reduced in size -Rolento's jabs addressed -Xiaoyu's crouching hard kick phoenix loops -Raven crouching HP loops -Auto-block gem has been re-balanced

Capcom also confirmed that those who registered for the Street Fighter X Tekken competition at the EVO event last weekend, as well as those who get the game’s upcoming PS Vita version, would receive the add-on for free.
