PlayStation Home, Sony’s social network for the PS3, is set to receive a major update tomorrow, February 29, which turns it into an actual fighting game, celebrating the upcoming release of Street Fighter X Tekken.

The PlayStation Home service was turned into a much more attractive online network last year, thanks to a major update that placed an emphasis on the actual mini-games you can enjoy while in Home.

Now, in celebration of the upcoming release of Street Fighter X Tekken, PlayStation Home is set to host a Total Game Integration event tomorrow, during which you can fight against other Home users.

“New challenges and rewards await you this week in our exclusive Street Fighter X Tekken Total Game Integration event. For the first time in Home history, you can brawl using your avatars! Complete all 10 challenges to unlock Ryu and Kazuya costumes, which will allow you to throw fireballs and perform custom jump kick attacks.”

What’s more, this event allows you to pre-order the actual game right from PlayStation Home and, by doing so, you’ll earn a special bonus in the form of the Boost Gem Trial Pack 1 bundle.

This adds special gems that can increase your fighter’s Vitality or Defense, not to mention the build-up speed for his Cross Gauge meter.

Plenty of other new things are also set to appear in PlayStation Home tomorrow, including a new edition of the Wardrobe Wars competition, which sees players compete one against another for a chance to go at E3 2012 in summer, not to mention other prizes.

New costumes that allow you to dress up as either a robot samurai or a lovely geisha will also be added to the online service, as will new spaces like the Frozen Palace or the French Chateau, which can be explored by Home users.

Until tomorrow, when the Home update appears, check out a video below showcasing the new fighting mechanics.
