Ultra Street Fighter IV producer Yoshinori Ono revealed that the Street Fighter franchise was bound to come to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms "at some time or other," but that Capcom currently had no plans to bring the popular fighting game series to the Wii U.

The information comes from a series of tweets from the game producer, responding to a fan asking whether we will get to see Street Fighter on the current generation of consoles, with Ono's answer being a little on the vague side, but confirming that Capcom has plans to do so.

In what is bad news for fans of Nintendo's Wii U console, Ono told another fan "I apologize that we don't have plan for Wii U," when asked about the possibility of Street Fighter landing on Nintendo's platform.

For the time being, Capcom has yet to talk about its plans regarding the next entry in the Street Fighter series, and has so far only discounted the rumor that it intends to implement a free-to-play pay-to-win model designed to reach a broader audience and to encourage beginners to, well, pay in order to win.

Earlier in June, Yoshinori Ono tweeted that the team was still in the early planning stages, and would return with an announcement at a later date.

The latest installment in the long-standing series is Ultra Street Fighter IV, released in Japanese arcades in April 2014, followed by the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions in June, and the PC version in August.

The PC edition of Ultra Street Fighter IV is the first in the series to use Steam from day one, following the closure of Games for Windows Live. The updated edition introduces six new stages and five new characters to the already extensive roster, in the form of Rolento, Elena, Poison, Hugo and Decapre, an entirely new fighter.

Aside from the usual serving of balance tweaks, the update also introduced a few new mechanics to the classic formula, such as Red Focus, similar to the regular Focus move but with more invincibility hits, and the delayed wakeup technique that allows knocked-down players to stay on the ground a little longer before getting up, as well as the removal of most unblockable setups, a decision based on fan feedback.

For now, there is no information regarding a prospective port of Ultra Street Fighter IV to the Xbox One or PlayStation 4 platforms, but we'll come back with the news as soon as Capcom makes any related announcements.
