Street Fighter is one of the most successful franchises in the world of video gaming and at least one of the producers working on the game believes that this is mainly because the team working on it at Capcom has always stuck by a set of fundamental concepts established early in the series.

Speaking to Gamasutra as part of a bigger interview Yoshinori Ono, who is a producer working on the Street Fighter series and its spokesman, said, “To me, the ideal is still the original Street Fighter I or II. The truth is, the number of gauges present on screen in IV do divert focus from the core fighting game within, but they are necessary as a way to further evolve the series and to cater to higher-tier players.”

Capcom uses a complex process which includes rapid prototyping and testers in order to create a balance between the need to offer information to gamers and the need to take up as little screen space as possible.

Ono added, “I didn’t really research the works of other companies in making this, so it’s hard to really say anything. If there was any particular plan at work here, I suppose you could say we were trying to cultivate a look that bore the ‘Capcom DNA'.”

The developer again praised Street Fighter II and says that going forward the team will make sure that it evolves them without affecting the balance of the game.

The next game that Yoshinori Ono is involved with is Street Fighter X Tekken, which is a cross over title that will be launched on the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the Xbox 360 from Microsoft.

Capcom has not yet talked about creating Street Fighter V but somewhere deep inside the company a small team is surely pushing around ideas about what the next installment of their flagship fighting game could offer.
