Customers worldwide leveraging StreamInsight can now download and deploy the latest version of the platform through Microsoft Update, and WSUS.

As of February 2nd, 2010, the Redmond company released StreamInsight 1.1 via MU and is serving it automatically, depending on the Microsoft Update settings.

For those not familiar with StreamInsight, this is a platform designed for the development and deployment of complex event processing (CEP) applications associated with SQL Server 2008 R2.

Of course, customers would first need to be Microsoft Update subscribers, With the Redmond company emphasizing that version 1.1 of the platform as well as subsequent releases of StreamInsight will not be served through Windows Update.

According to the software giant, the move is designed to streamline automatic downloads and installation of the technology.

As far as StreamInsight 1.1 is concerned, it will be pushed automatically only to those that subscribed to MU, that have already deployed StreamInsight 1.0, but not v.1.1.

“Microsoft Update will automatically download and install the corresponding StreamInsight 1.1 update side by side with your existing StreamInsight 1.0 installation – across all supported 32-bit and 64-bit Windows operating systems, across 11 supported languages, and across StreamInsight client and server SKUs,” revealed a member of the StreamInsight Team.

“This is also supported in WSUS environments, if all your updates are managed from a corporate server (please talk to the WSUS administrator in your enterprise).”

Customers need to embrace Microsoft Update since it will be the Redmond company’s preferred method of delivery for StreamInsight.

The software giant explained that this decision was made because of the need to enable timely delivery of future releases.

“In order to enable agile deployment of StreamInsight solutions, you have asked of us a steady cadence of releases with incremental, but highly impactful features and product improvements,” the StreamInsight Team representative added.

“Following our StreamInsight 1.0 launch in Spring 2010, we offered StreamInsight 1.1 in Fall 2010 with implicit compatibility and an upgraded setup to support side by side installs.

“With this setup, your applications will automatically point to the latest runtime, but you still have the choice to point your application back to a 1.0 runtime if you choose to do so.”
