It would seem that more and more manufacturers of HD and streaming media players are starting to realize the huge potential of Apple's iPad (and iPhone too) as a source of multimedia content (audio and video as well), the latest to come up with a product that leverages the iPad's capabilities being Xtreamer, a brand created by several Korean companies backed up fully by the semi conductor chipset manufacturers and launched under the Mvix chain of partners worldwide. The product in question is the iXtreamer hybrid media player, a device that will enable users to stream HD (MKV H.264) movies or user-generated videos, listen to high-quality digital music and show high-resolution slideshows on one's HDTV, one of the main content sources being Apple's iPad. As far as we're concerned, the iXtreamer is probably the ultimate streaming media player, since it allows users to connect to it just about any type of device in order to acquire content, which can be either played back directly on the HDTV or stored onto the player's own built-in 3.5-inch HDD unit, supporting HDDs up to 3TB. Since we're on the topic of hardware specs, we'll also have to point out that the device is built around a Realtek 1283X DD+ chipset, and also features a Dedicated Apple Dock Controller and 256MB DDR 2 SDRAM, 256MB Flash memory. As mentioned before, it also delivers numerous connectivity options, including HDMI, Component and Composite video, Stereo Analog Audio and S/PDIF Optical Digital Audio, as well as 1x USB 2.0 slave port, 2x USB 2.0 host ports, an iPhone/iPad/iPod Dock, Ethernet 10/100 RJ-45 and an WIFI USB Antenna 802.11n available separately. Since we've mentioned the Apple Dock, we'll also have to provide you with the (rather lengthy) list of supported products, that includes the iPad, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G, iPhone, iPod touch 4th generation, iPod touch 3rd generation, iPod touch 2nd generation, iPod touch 1st generation, iPod classic 120GB 160GB (2009), iPod classic 160GB (2007), iPod classic 80GB, iPod nano 6th generation, iPod nano 5th generation (video camera), iPod nano 4th generation (video), iPod nano 3rd generation (video), iPod 5th generation (video), iPod 4th generation (color display) 40GB 60GB. Like most other high-end HD media players out there, the iXtreamer will also play just about every type of multimedia file known to man, whether we're talking about video, audio, photos, ISO images, subtitles or streaming formats (if you want to find out more info on the topic of supported file formats, you can check out the product page here). Last, but certainly not least, we'll have to point out that the iXtreamer will be offered for very attractive price of 174 euro (without shipping taxes), which might actually draw the attention of a whole lot of people looking for such a media player for a Christmas present.
