A 14-year-old girl has been accidentally killed in a shooting in New York over the weekend, while riding a bus in Queens.

Daja Robinson of South Jamaica was heading home from a sweet 16 on Saturday, May 18. She was shot while she was on the bus at around 9 p.m., NY Post informed.

According to the Daily Mail, Robinson suffered gunshot wounds to the head. She was shot by a stray bullet when a man fired 10 bullets towards the bus.

The Q6 bus had stopped on Sutphin Boulevard before the gunman opened fire. The unidentified shooter took off on foot afterwards.

The police are yet to find the motivation for the shooting or whom the man was targeting. Robinson got on the bus near 125 Avenue in Jamaica with a group of girls and sat in the window seat before the shooting started.

They had just left Onyx Lounge, where the sweet 16 was going on. The restaurant is located near the bus stop, but other partygoers couldn't identify the suspect or give information as to what prompted the shootout.

One male and one female witness specified that no brawl or verbal confrontation took place before the incident. They couldn't provide a motive for the man who opened fire on the teenagers.

“The cops were just questioning me to see if it was a private event, who was here, and when they left.

“There was no altercation here. It’s not like anything spilled out from here,” one woman standing outside the Onyx Lounge said.

“It sounded like Iraq out here,” describes 21-year-old Keisha Johnson, living in the area where the killing took place.

Robinson was transported to Jamaica Hospital with a life-threatening wound and she passed away soon after, on the same day.

Police are yet to make an arrest in her case but they are currently searching for the suspect.
