Make your feelings known and wear them proud

It seems that as far as prints are concerned, this summer pretty much everything goes. Since fashion designers encourage us to be bold and assert our personalities via our clothes, we now have the chance to do just that - the literal way. Thus, one of the popular trends of the summer tells us that it's OK to don outfits that spell out thoughts, feelings and dreams in large letters. Letter and number-emblazoned fabric prints, wrist bands and other accessories are popping out everywhere, signaling that the font-friendly trend is something we can all try.

Letters and numbers are very powerful symbols and human beings have been fascinated with them for millennia. Many tattoos for example use letters and numbers to express powerful ideas, concepts and visions about the self and the world outside. Typography as decoration in fashion is an interesting trend and fashion stylists predict that it will only get bigger as we move towards the Autumn/Winter 2008/2009 season. In fact, logos and other types of pictograms are extremely fashionable as decorative elements at the moment and are extremely effective at expressing moods and meanings.

Letters and numbers work for anything from dresses and tops to skirts, accessories and even things like wallpaper and pillows. Depending on what we want to transmit, we can wear large, bold prints with simple messages, evoke the innocence of past moments in our lives, conjure up feelings of happiness, sadness, love or longing - or simply express an attitude towards a certain situation - like a war, for example.

There's also the possibility of wearing letters and numbers all jumbled up and simply enjoy the fact that they look equally cool in a "messy" sort of way. A necklace with a letter pendant (it may be your initial or anything else that has a specific significance for you) is also a good idea. Letters and numbers can convey anything from mystery to skepticism to downright defiance and, if used carefully, they can turn out to be clear fashion and personal style statements.
