The game and the pitch seem too ludicrous to be real

Strafe is a modern 3D shooter that looks like the best such creation that could have arrived back in 1996.

While some people dream of our future, there are always some who cast a nostalgic look at the past, and developer Pixel Titans' crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter aims to offer gamers the opportunity to travel back in time and experience a classic shooter experience.

The best thing about it is that you can't even tell whether the Kickstarter pitch video is poking fun at the '90s or is a serious attempt to travel back in time, sort of like a child imagining a world made out of cake really hard, hoping for it to materialize out of thin air.

The video alone is enough to sell the concept of the game, so give it a look below. However, the developers also took the time to put together some text, in case you're the reading type.

Strafe is an upcoming project that aims to deliver a classic first-person shooter experience, as brutal and challenging as in the days of yore, and fashioned in a similar manner.

Strafe is the perfect '90s shooter

The story is simple. You set out to gather resources in space and things go wrong. Very wrong. You find yourself assaulted and have to mow down hordes of enemies in order to return home.

Pixelated visuals and seemingly crude action are the title's main draw, but the developers also boast procedurally generated levels ensuring billions of possible playthroughs, Oculus Rift compatibility, a ton of enemies to kill and maim in brutal ways, persistent gibs and blazing fast gameplay.

The game includes power-ups that affect various weapon attributes such as magazine size, damage, reload time and firing speed, and offers three different tools to dish out suffering, a shotgun, a machine gun and a railgun, with more hidden throughout the world for you to discover.

If you want to find out more about the game and its development process, you can pay the Strafe dev blog a visit.
