Apparently, this “gate” will be hard to shake

Bendgate is far from over. After we ran a story about two school boys bending a display unit right inside an Apple Store, others took it as inspiration to do the same.

Redditor IanBro shares a disturbing story where even parents are engaging in these types of activities with their children. The situation is getting so serious that store managers are actually forced to call the police.

Not just at the Apple Store

IanBro decided he’d get himself the all-new iPhone 6. He had in mind two trips: one to the Apple Store and one to Best Buy.

“At the Apple Store, I see some of the iPhone 6 demo units were missing. Apparently people are going to the Apple Store and ‘bending’ the iPhone 6. Then a few minutes later, police officers go inside the Apple Store to talk to someone that recently bent the iPhone 6 and refused to pay for the damages. Apparently this happened ten minutes before I entered the store.”

Right. So that’s the situation at the Apple Store. Next up, Best Buy. Here’s where things get even weirder. According to IanBro (whom we have to take at his word), the police was also called there because parents and their kids were bending iPhones.

“I check it out [the iPhone 6] and some people tell me ‘It's a bad phone. It bends,’ ‘Watch me to bend this iPhone,’ ‘Galaxy is better because it doesn't bend’ and so on. Then [a] few minutes later, I leave the iPhone area and I see a parent and a kid bending the iPhone 6 and cops were called.”

Vandalism becomes a hobby

Things are clearly getting out of hand. As we noted before, if you try to bend something that can bend, it will bend. Simple as that.

Fellow redditor gibletor has an even better comparison. He says, “Imagine if someone started a rumor that Samsung TVs break if you punch their screen, and people started busting up floor models to see if it's true. Can't see how this is any different. Straight up vandalism.”

And that’s exactly what this is. Just because Apple put on some sacrifice display units on the tables it doesn’t mean you can render them useless before their natural expiration date.

An equally good comparison comes from another user, who adds, “Basically it's like walking into a car lot and keying a car and saying ‘look the paint scratches’.”

Couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
