PCI Express slots are normally used by graphics cards in normal, consumer PCs, but when it comes to industrial systems, servers and data centers, they can easily come to hold other things as well, like the new USB 3.0 host controller from HighPoint.

Said host controller, called RocketU 1144C, is an all-in-one, high-end USB 3.0 connectivity solution for desktops and workstations.

Just insert it into the PCI Express 2.0 slot and voila! Your computer can now use all available USB storage devices, USB 20 and 3.0 peripherals, device hubs, card readers, interface devices, etc.

This is the third iteration of HighPoint's RocketU controller. It has four ports and can easily replace previous-generation RocketU 1144A and RocketU 1144B cards. No software changer or driver installations are required.

All USB 3.0 ports should work at the full 5 Gbps transfer rate, even if they are used at the same time. What's more, UAS technology enhances performance by 30% over non-UAS configurations.

For those wondering, UAS is a technology that allows some storage devices, like the RocketStor 5422 USB 3.0 Storage Dock, to work better than their peers, by storing and processing multiple commands in parallel. This cuts on wait time and streamlines data transfers.

For those reasons, multi-tasking and performance-hungry applications go well hand in hand with UAS-capable USB 3.0 products.

As some may have been able to guess, HighPoint would be especially satisfied if buyers of its RocketU 1144C got the RocketStor 5422 USB 3.0 storage dock as well. Sure, the newcomer supports all USB 2.0 and 3.0 devices out there, but according to HighPoint, the RocketStor 5422 is the fastest USB 3.0 storage drive available.

Besides, the two products were meant to work as a team, or have been optimized to operate well together at the very least. Nevertheless, clients will, ultimately, have the final say.

Sadly, the price of the HighPoint RocketU 1144C HBA remains unknown. The company's Distribution and Retail channels are already shipping it, but it falls to potential customers to place orders and negotiate prices, based on the number of needed cards and charisma.
