A new report issued by Navigant Research says that, in the years to come, the use of stop-start technology will pretty much soar.

Thus, the report argues that, according to data currently available, global sales for vehicles fitted with this technology will hit over 55 million by the year 2022.

Otherwise put, such eco-friendly cars will account for 54.3% of the vehicle sales recorded on a global scale by said date, Environmental Leader reports.

Furthermore, the report maintains that, by the year 2020, about 82.8% of the cars sold in Western Europe will be fitted with the stop-start technology.

In the case of Asia Pacific and North America, the percentage will be one of 69.9 and 42.6, respectively.

As previously reported, the stop-start technology means that, when a car stops moving, its engine is turned off and a battery kicks in to keep accessories and systems online. Once the brake pedal is released, the engine comes back to life.

The technology makes it possible for drivers to reduce fuels costs and improve on the ecological footprint of their vehicles at the same time.
