Users want Microsoft to stick to the Modern UI

Microsoft is currently in the process of improving Windows Phone with new features, while also working on a completely new release that would be part of Windows 10, but users already know what they want to get from the new mobile operating system.

A post on the Windows Phone UserVoice and currently totaling 4,700 votes calls for Microsoft to stick to the Modern UI and stop copying Android, with some explaining that Redmond isn't quite going in the right direction with this new approach.

Microsoft's recent design of the OneDrive app, which brings the UI closer to Android rather than to the Modern UI, has attracted a new wave of criticism for the Redmond-based software giant, as many users believe that the firm is struggling too much to compete with its rivals and in this process it forgets that it needs to improve its apps based on what they want.

“Windows Phone is better because it's different”

If you read users' comments, it's easy to understand that Microsoft's recent improvements aren't really pleasing those currently owning a Windows Phone.

In fact, Microsoft's new approach has made some people accuse the company of “copying Android” and stepping towards a design that's more appropriate for Google's mobile operating system rather than for Redmond's.

Here's one of the comments that sum up most of the opinions posted on this thread:

“Windows Phone is better because it is fresh and different. All that work re-imagining the phone interface and you are going to throw it away by letting some teams that don't 'get it' make apps that copy Android? PLEASE STOP! Return to your design language of Pivots and Hubs; let Android copy Windows Phone instead, like they're already doing with their new flatter UI graphics.”

Windows Phone 10 coming next year

Accusing Microsoft of going for an Android-inspired design isn't actually the best thing to do right now because the company itself is in the middle of a transformation that could also bring new approaches for Windows and Windows Phone users.

Windows Phone 10 is also in the works right now, and even though little is known at this point, there's no secret that Microsoft hopes to use this mobile operating system to become a fiercer rival for Google's Android and Apple's iOS.

People close to the matter indicated that Windows Phone 10 could arrive in early 2015 in the form of a preview build, while the stable version could see daylight later the same year.

As for the design, details are, of course, scarce right now, but don't be so sure that this so-called Android-inspired design would be maintained.
