As experts have recently highlighted, Advanced Evasion Techniques (AETs) are slowly but surely becoming an issue that most companies should start worrying about. In an attempt to mitigate this threat, Stonesoft has released the industry’s first Evasion Prevention System (EPS) and a free tool called Evader.

Released at this year’s Black Hat conference in Las Vegas, the solutions have been welcomed by the community, and experts hope that they’ll act as a wake-up call for organizations.

“Network security vendors have ignored the problem posed by AETs for a number of years,” explained Andrew Blyth, a professor at Glamorgan University and an AET expert.

“Stonesoft’s free Evader test tool makes securing against AETs accessible for organizations of all sizes. Hopefully, this will encourage the whole network security industry to come together and seriously research AETs and their ongoing threat.”

As far as EPS is concerned, Ilkka Hiidenheimo - the founder and CEO of Stonesoft – reveals that most IPS, UTM and firewalls fail to protect networks against AETs, raising the necessity for specialized systems.

“With business data and systems, SCADA networks, homeland security and critical infrastructure on the line, it’s time that the security industry provided organizations with a tool that addresses AETs in a cost-effective way,” Hiidenheimo said.

“Our EPS product doesn’t require a rip and replace of existing investments, making AET security possible for any organization.”

The EPS provides an additional layer of security to existing solutions designed to protect infrastructures against such cyberattacks.

Tested against over 800 million advanced evasion techniques and their dynamic combinations, the EPS acts as a “patch” that addresses vulnerabilities leveraged by such threats.

Evader, whose capabilities have been demonstrated to the participants of the Black Hat event, is available for free on Stonesoft’s website. It allows organizations of all sizes to test their current network security solutions’ abilities to handle cyberattacks that leverage AETs.
