This past Tuesday, 71-year-old George Talley, who now lives in Detroit, US, was reunited with a car he lost back in the 1980s. Thus, it was 33 years ago that the vehicle was stolen and disappeared without a trace.

The car, featured in the photo above, is a silver 1979 Corvette. George Talley claims to have last seen it in 1981, when he parked it somewhere on Jefferson Avenue in Detroit only to return hours later and find that it was missing.

Information shared with the public says the ride was found just last month, when an unidentified person attempted to register its Vehicle Identification Number at the Mississippi Department of Transportation.

Because the car was already registered to George Talley, this unknown person was left with no choice but abandon the car. Luckily for the 71-year-old, folks at the American Automobile Association knew exactly what to do next.

According to My Fox Detroit, it was on June 13 that folks at the American Automobile Association in Mississippi contacted the silver Corvette's rightful owner and told him that they had found his car.

What's more, they told him that he could anytime drop by, pick up his vehicle, and drive it back home, the same source explains. Unfortunately, one small but not at all negligible problem presented itself: the issue of money.

Simply put, 71-year-old George Talley did not have enough cash on his hands to travel all the way to Mississippi, pick up his car, and then drive it back home. Luckily, General Motors Executive Mark Ruess offered to help.

In a nutshell, Mark Ruess helped transport the silver 1979 Corvette all the way to Detroit and, just yesterday, George Talley and his long-lost ride were finally reunited. To top it all, word has it that the car started the moment the 71-year-old put the keys in the ignition.

Talking to the press, George Talley admitted that, all things considered, this experience was rather exciting and quite emotional. More so since he had pretty much lost all hope to ever again see his ride. “I was just excited it started. I'm overwhelmed really,” the man said in a statement.

By the looks of it, the silver 1979 Corvette is not exactly in the best shape of its life. However, 71-year-old George Talley promises that he will do his best to clean it up and repair it, and he is confident that the car still has a few awesome rides left in it.
