Android mobile phone users around the world can now enjoy a new application on their devices, namely Stitcher. The new software solution is a free app available for download from the Android Market, which will deliver on-demand news and talk radio directly to the handsets running under Google's Android operating system.

According to the company, the new app is available for handsets running under Android 1.6 or higher, and offers background playing, so that users can access other applications while listening to news and talk radio on the move. The software solution already proved to be one of the most popular apps for the iPhone, Palm Pre, and BlackBerry, and now it is available for the large community of Android fans around the world.

“Android users have been vocal in requesting Stitcher for their phones, so we're pleased to release the best on-demand talk-radio app to this exciting new platform,” said Stitcher CEO and co-founder Noah Shanok. “The app is blazing fast on Android devices, and we’re exciting about the opportunities Android offers.”

What the Stitcher app offers to users includes the possibility to enjoy digital content in an audio format while they are on the go, something that is also known around the world as Smart Radio. Stitcher is set to enable a much wider number of people to enjoy Smart Radio, thus arriving on Android after its launch for iPhone, BlackBerry, and Palm webOS.

“Smart Radio is a rapidly emerging media category that combines the mobility of radio with the content availability and choice of Internet technology. With Smart Radio, anyone with an Internet connection can stream on-demand audio to their mobile devices, customizing their programming to fit their individual preferences and interests – from music to talk to information,” the company notes.

Stitcher is the one app that brings Smart Radio on mobile phones, enabling users to enjoy their favorite audio content no matter where they are. Moreover, the app will stream the best in news, sports, talk and entertainment, the company states, adding that users can easily stay connected while on the go through Stitcher. Love Stitcher on my Garminfone. Works seamlessly to hear pod casts. I use it for Daily Audio Bible when I am away from my computer. Found a number of public radio programs that I knew about but was missing on my radio.
