The situation of the format that will replace DVDs continues to be uncertain, and no progress has been made since April when Sony succeeded to bring Toshiba at the negotiation table.

Sony and Toshiba have agreed the Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD conflict is not useful to anyone and a unifying format would be the ideal solution.

Both companies have denied the information published by Nihon Kiezai Shimbun according to which Sony forced the HD-DVD side, represented by Toshiba to accept the Blu-Ray technology and the HD-DVD software as the solution for the next format.

The representatives of the two companies said Matsushita is also participating in the negotiations, but no settlement has been reached yet.

Despite all negotiations, Toshiba has announced the HD-DVD format will be presented at Media Tech Expo, and event that will take place in Las Vegas on November 5.

Therefore, the future of a unique format for the next generation of DVDs is still uncertain.
