Stick Your Digital Camera to Just About Any Surface

- With the help of the Monsterpod

By: Alex Vochin, Technology Editor

Tripods are some of the most useful photo accessories ever developed, since they allow the user to get a steadier and more stable shot of its respective subject, even though they have their limitations, mostly related to rough terrain conditions or shots taken in special conditions.
Enter the Monsterpod from Photojojo, a special type of...well, not quite a tripod, but a supporting system for digital cameras.

Besides its very peculiar (some might even say extraterrestrial) design, this thing is really pretty useful. Thus, it is capable of sticking to over 1,000 types of surfaces and objects, at the same time being quite capable of peeling off quite rapidly. The Monsterpod features a pivoting tripod mount that allows it to tilt and rotate to just about any angle, and is capable of holding any camera with a weight of up to 560 grams (to be on the safe side, you'd probably have to use it only with point and shoot or bridge cameras, cause dSLRs tend to get a lot heavier). Moreover, it is quite waterproof and dirt resistant, which makes it suitable for just about any environment the photographer chooses for his/her shots.

Another great thing about this device is that it can hold its position, regardless of the surface it's placed onto, for anywhere between 1-10 minutes or longer (at least that's what the manufacturers tell us). As mentioned before, the UFO-shaped Monsterpod can very easily be fitted onto any surface, the most "difficult" part of this operation being the molding. The device is available for 35 US dollars, which is a bit hefty for a tripod, but it's not that big a price overall, considering the great advantages it offers.
