Movie mogul (director and producer) Steven Spielberg will be honored at the 42nd Chicago International Film Festival's annual Summer Gala.

Steven Spielberg, aka "the Beard" is to receive the Gold Hugo Lifetime Achievement Award as recognition of his 33 year career in the film industry.

The Chicago International Film Festival running October 5 through 19 picked up Spielberg as he is one of the most known and appreciated directors the U.S recently had. His movies, including Saving Private Ryan, Jaws, Schindler's List, E.T., The Extra-Terrestrial, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and the Indiana Jones series made lots of kids happy and gained during the decades a huge fanbase.

What most people appreciate about Spielberg, apart from his love for the kids and warm-hearted movies is his ability to shift from grim dramas (Munich) to smart comedies (Catch Me if You Can) and from state of art science-fiction movies (A.I, Minority Report) to pure entertaining pieces of movie history (Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones).

Michael Kutza, founder and Artistic Director of the Festival, said about the works and personality of Spielberg: "Steven's artistry elevates all of his projects to a higher level, be it a thriller such as Jurassic Park, or the moving and sensitive The Color Purple. His unique collaboration with Stanley Kubrick on A.I. Artificial Intelligence. His most recent achievement was his nomination for 5 Academy Awards for Munich which included best picture and best director. We are honored to have this master storyteller with us in Chicago."

In the past very important people for cinema have been rewarded with the same award: Shirley MacLaine, Richard Attenborough, Francois Truffaut, Jodie Foster, Robin Williams and Clint Eastwood.
